Obituary of Rosemarie Polo
Rosemarie Bascianilli Polo
January 5th, 1965 - November 9th, 2024
Rosemarie Bascianilli Polo, 59, died Saturday November 9th, 2024 peacefully in her home. For the past four and a half years she had been battling Glioblastoma, but is now at peace and out of pain.
Rosemarie graduated from St. Joseph’s Elementary School where she was quoted saying “No matter where we go, or what we do, we will succeed in finding happiness.” She then went on to graduate from Maria Regina High School, and from The College of St. Rose. She never let obstacles get in her way. If she wanted something done, she was determined to do it. Her willpower is exhibited by the fact that even though she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she pushed through and worked as an Industrial Hygienist at Con Ed, while simultaneously working towards her Masters Degree from Hunter College. If you had seen her working at Con Ed, you wouldn’t have known she was even suffering from Multiple Sclerosis because of how much she enjoyed protecting the safety of the workers there.
We lost a wonderful member of society, who donated years of her life, even while ill, to her community. We lost a loving mother to two sons, Anthony and Matthew, who were always taught to put others before themselves, to follow their dreams, and that everyday is a gift to be cherished. She thrived on living to see them as they grew into young men who always had her by their side in celebrating their accomplishments. She was very happy to be involved through helping coordinate fundraisers for the Herricks Wrestling team, and would run their concessions at the matches. She also was majorly involved in the PTA, the Naval Academy Parents Club, and Hofstra University. She held many leadership roles in all three organizations, including holding the President title at the PTA.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Polo; her two children Anthony Polo (Ilana) and Matthew Polo; her sister Phyllis Detweiler (Allan); her two nieces Priscilla Detweiler and Victoria Detweiler; her parents Dolores and David Bascianilli; and many other family members who she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her Nanny and Poppy, Felicia and Peter Bascianilli.
Rosemarie left an impression on many people that crossed her path, and she will be dearly missed. Many are feeling the impact of her passing, including the family dog, Buddy, who never left her side and was loyal until the very end.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glioblastoma Research Organization at https://www.gbmresearch.org or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation at https://msfocus.org/Home.aspx in Rosemarie’s name.
