You can tell something about a person by their natural expression, and Mr. Hughes’ was a constant, faint smile, especially in his eyes, which worked perfectly with a subtle and wry humor. He was among the kindest, calmest and humblest people you could ever know. If you just saw him, “Big Man” might not be the first nickname that came to mind, but once you knew him, it made complete sense.

We are so very sorry to learn of Jim's passing. He was a wonderfully caring man who, along with Grace and their sons, has been a staple friend to the Grant family for close to 60 years. I remember many memorable parties at our house with Jim and Grace joining in to sing Irish melodies or Christmas songs, and adding to the laughter and festivities. Jim was always a good friend to our parents to the very end, and they/we will miss his smile, laughter, knowledge, and most of all, our parents will miss his friendship and light that he brought to them. My Dad always enjoyed discussions with Jim on many topics, and they both had a good time debating each other on those many topics! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very hard time, and we wish you peace in knowing that Jim is now an angel on high, continuing to look out for and take care of his family and friends from above.
