In the 30 years that I have known Nick Siciliano, I'm hard pressed to remember a time when he wasn't wearing that open and genuine smile that you see in the photo. I have had the honor of meeting and befriending a lot of truly wonderful men and women in the fire service, but for warmth, kindness, love and generosity, Nick has always stood out. I already miss our rides together down to the Burn Center meetings, and I will always miss seeing that great smile on the face of my good friend.

On behalf of my family, our sincerest sympathies to the Siciliano family on the passing of their kind-hearted and publicly spirited patriarch. To this date, I have multiple fond memories of times spent with Mr. Siciliano at the EWFD when I was much younger, where he was kind, warm, and informative. With apologies to Ray Heatherton who may have first taken the title on television, Mr. Siciliano will always be to me, "the Merry Mailman." I'm sure that those former members of the EWFD who went before Nick such as my parents, Ed and June, as well as Chief and Mrs. Carbone and others, were already lined up both to offer a hand salute to former Chief Nick, pass him a beverage, and to wish him welcome to a new heavenly venue from an earthly town of which Abe Lincoln once opined: “I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him. ” Those who once called the Village of East Williston home, and those who are privileged to still do so, know that when it comes to the 2nd part of President Lincoln's above quote, he may have been reflecting on a man just like Ex-Chief Nicholas Siciliano.
