Debbie and I met in the fall of 1976 in a long line in the campus of Queens college as luck will have it, we were both registering for the exact same classes. Our careers took on different paths, but our friendship persevered.
We had fun, we celebrated countless milestones, we traveled, we cried, we laughed, and we always found good reasons to put away a good bottle of wine with no problems whatsoever.
There are so many attributes to describe Debbie, but she was the epitome of discretion. I shared with her things that were dear to my heart; victories and failures, but being the classy woman that she was, Debbie never criticized me, and I knew that regardless of the circumstances she was always in my corner.
Debbie loved her family; John and her daughters were the center of her world. Britney and Shannon are blessed to have the love of a mother like Debbie, she embodied all the qualities of a strong, poised, and loving mother. I have no doubt that the example of her character will guide and shape the rest of their lives. As a wife, she was whole heartedly devoted to John and a better love story could have never been written.
In the absence of my own sisters God put Debbie in my life and I will forever be thankful for the gift of her unconditional friendship.
Girlfriend, I will miss you!! Until we meet again, rest in peace my dearest frend.

There simply will never be the right words to describe the monumental pain that comes from losing my mom.
My mom was my best friend, confidant, and biggest supporter. She unconditionally supported and loved me through every second of the twenty eight years I was blessed to have with her. She truly was sunshine in human form. I have never met a person with a bigger smile, and more generous heart. The way she lived her life and the values she held have taught me to work hard, see the good in all people, and approach life as an enthusiast.
My mom made every day spent together a special memory. She took immense pride in taking caring of others, from her selfless career as a nurse to the way in which she tirelessly provided for and loved her family. While I will never be able to fill her shoes, I will spend the rest of my life remembering the value she placed on family, and doing all that I can to ensure her spirit is felt through the love and the bond I will continue to share with my sister and dad.
While my heart is broken as I mourn the loss of the beautiful soul that my mom was, I know that carrying on is simply not an option; after all she has done for me in my life, I owe it to her to spend the rest of my life honoring her memory and spreading her light.
“You were an angel in the shape of my mom. You got to see the person I have become, spread your wings and I know that when God took you back he said, “Hallelujah, you’re home.”

My Journey with Debbie
Way back in the early 1960's, my family & I moved from the lower eastside (Alphabet City) to 49th St., in Astoria, NY 11103.
About a year later, a lovely family w/2 daughters, Linda & Debbie, moved into the adjacent apartment building. From that moment on--a friendship began which stayed throughout our youth, teenage years & into adulthood. Debbie was beautiful, sexy, super intelligent, loving & most of all---very caring & nurturing! When I was 13 & Debbie was 11-----I had cut four fingers on right hand from a rusty Van Door! Before going to my home-----Debbie took me back to her home & totally cleaned, disinfected & bandaged all my wounds! Next day, Dr. said---Whoever cleaned you up---KNEW what they were doing!! No wonder, Debbie became a Nurse! Gone Too Soon! REST IN PEACE MY PRECIOUS, CHILDHOOD FRIEND!
With Heartfelt Condolences, Kathy Salak Hoffman
