It is trite to say that a light has gone out. But honestly, this was someone using her luck to make a greater world. How sad that that that small sliver of what it is to be sliver, that representation of what it is to be human is over. I really liked her. It should not be so

I had the privilege of sharing so many experiences with Erica -- classes on Latin America in the SFS at Georgetown, D2i work in Bosnia together at Deloitte, Stanford GSB -- and every time our paths would cross, I would find myself all the more wowed by her intellectual horsepower and dynamism, but more than anything by the depths of her kindness and humanity. Erica was a true role model to me, and I consider myself indescribably fortunate to have known her and thrived in her friendship over this past decade plus. I am heartbroken over her passing, but happy to know that every time I think of her, it will fill me with warmth and bring a smile to my face. Thank you Erica, for your joy, courage, and friendship.

We had the absolute pleasure of being Erica's dance instructors at the American Theater Dance Workshop. She was a vibrant, caring, smart and incredibly ambitious young woman. We were in awe of her energy and drive. She was a beam of light in class and had both the admiration and respect of her teachers and peers. We knew, just knew, she would rise to the highest levels of whatever she chose to do. the nickname "Ms. President" was lofted about whenever she could hear. The loss of this extraordinary young woman will be felt by many for years to come. Her memory will always bring a light to our faces. We would be honored to organize a scholarship in her name at the studio. We are truly sorry we missed her memorial and offer our condolences to her family and friends and all that mourn her.

I will always remember how, when we went to meet then-Presidential candidate Joe Biden in Iowa, you made sure I stood in line before you, even if it meant you may not get a handshake. I am glad you, Mike, and I all got our handshakes and had this selfie together on that day. We are thankful that we shared this memory with you <3

ERICA PINCUS (1991-2021)
A Remembrance
Erica loved her family and friends and they returned in kind. She even spent April vacations helping to build homes in Mexico. Erica had three basic loves: Politics; dancing; and traveling.
Erica graduated from Georgetown University, magna cum Laude in political science and then took masters degrees at both Stanford University and Harvard University at the Kennedy Center in the same year. She worked at the Obama White House the last year of his presidency. She was able to take friends and family on tours to the West Wing and the Oval Office. She worked on both the Obama and Biden campaigns.
Another love was dancing, especially ballet dancing. She started out in pre-school as a chicken, counting her steps. For many years she was in the Nut Cracker, ending by acting the role of the Mouse Queen, instead of the Mouse King, and she did a great job with that role. She was a Junior Rockette dancing at Radio City Music Hall and she even danced at Carnegie Hall and in China during the Olympics in that country.
Erica traveled extensively throughout The United States and the world. She even spent one semester in Argentina. This all started out as cruises when she was still in pre-school.
It is amazing what Erica was able to accomplish in her short life. Although I won’t be able to be there on Saturday, I will be watching and wearing yellow in her honor. I will never forget her and will love her always.

As she departed,
Entering a new realm.
The pain and sorrow,

A flower bloom,
See and feel,

Erica was one of the kindest humans I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. My partner Jessi and I met Erica at Georgetown. As colleagues and then friends working on a conference on campus, I saw the passion that Erica poured into everything that she pursued and the deep, striking care that she had for those around her. Erica gave so much love to every individual she grew to know and was loved back. As a friend, Erica had seemingly endless reserves of energy, compassion, and thoughtfulness. It always brought a smile to our faces to run into her by chance around campus, and every catch-up with Erica was a memorable occasion. We haven’t seen Erica for some time, but both Jessi and I warmly recall her smile, contagious laugh, and energy like we just saw her yesterday; I trust that recollection will never fade. We have always admired Erica’s positivity, drive, and deep caring for others and we always will.
Our sincerest condolences,
Brendan and Jessi

I had the pleasure of seeing Erica grow from a middle schooler to a beautiful young woman. She was beautiful both on the inside and the out. She cared about making the world a better place from a young age and didn't just talk about it. She invested her time and many gifts into making a difference. When I think of her I remember that she always had a smile on her face. I also remember that she conducted herself with grace - both physically and the way she interacted with others.
Cliff and Holly - I pray that your pain subsides and is replaced with hope of a future Erica reunion. I'm thankful for the many good memories and am grateful to you both for the part you had in raising this remarkable woman.

It seems like last week Holly and I were dropping our newborns for their first day at Hofstra Daycare. We bonded immediately over two mothers leaving their first baby with virtual strangers. Erica and Bobby bonded as “siblings” growing up together whether it was holding hands during nap time at Hofstra Daycare, on the playground at Westbury Friends or graduating LuHi. I have so many fond memories of their life growing up. In later years as life took us in different directions, you could always rely on Erica to greet you with her infectious smile whether you last saw her yesterday, last week, last month or on a holiday zoom call popping her head in view saying hi and dancing off to a work call. Next time you are outside on a dark night and look up into the sky and you see that one bright star, know that is Erica looking down for she is the brightest and shiniest star in heaven.

I'm so saddened by the news of Erica's passing. She was a dear friend of mine throughout my high school years. We did nearly everything together and I deeply admired and looked up to her. She challenged me socially, academically, spiritually and emotionally. She was easily one of my best friends. I hope you, her parents, know just how much she shaped my life in high school with her positivity and encouragement. She inspired greatness in not just me, but in everyone she came in contact with. We were all better for knowing her. I'm not sure what I would have done not having a friend like her around to be a close confidant. I hope you know how much of an impact Erica made on my life and the lives of those around her. She is gone too soon.

I just found out about Erica's passing today and I'm so deeply saddened. Erica and I met in the summer of 2019 while interning at Google X. We were part of a tight and quirky group of MBA interns trying to navigate a wild world of engineers and scientists. I always looked forward to our lunch breaks when our group would come together and laugh about whatever crazy thing was happening that day.
When I think of Erica, I think of her smile. She was truly a ray of sunshine, always positive. No matter what was happening that day, I would always feel better after hanging out with her. She was also one of the smartest people I've ever met. So ambitious but in the best, most humble way. It was truly a rare combination.
In the fall of 2019, Erica and I both happened to be in Boston since I was at HBS and she was at HKS. She was a teaching assistant for a class on Tech Ethics at the Kennedy School. I honestly pretty much only took that class as an excuse to see Erica and our other friend Natalya more since we had so much fun in that previous summer. The professor had so much respect for Erica and you could really tell because he interacted with her in a different way than the other TAs. She was always the first person he would ask if he needed something done. He trusted her completely, and that's saying a lot for someone who used to be Secretary of Defense.
I didn't get to see Erica again after that Fall of 2019. I was really hoping to get to see her after we both moved to San Francisco. I will miss her greatly and cherish the memories we did have together. In addition to the fact that she was the nicest person ever, I legitimately thought she would be a Senator or even President one day. She was that special.
I highly recommend people watch this speech she gave while at Stanford. It is truly inspiring. Rest in peace Erica.

I had the good fortune of working with Erica at the Everyday Robot Project where she was helping the team balance our technical ambitions with a socially responsible and cohesive plan. The day we heard about her passing a large group of us connected on a video call to share stories and grieve together.
I was the 5th or 6th person to speak, and what I verbalized was as follows;
"Listening to everything that everyone has said so far, the thing that strikes me most is how consistent our impressions and memories of Erica are. Throughout life, you encounter people that act differently based on who they are with, what context they are in, what they are trying to get out of a given situation. Erica was different. She was her genuine brilliant self in every encounter she had. She was exceptional, smart and passionate about her work. Always caring and engaged. Upbeat and action oriented. Her super power was to make sense and draw clarity from some of the world's most complicated issues. It's hard to make sense of any of this, but I'm so grateful for having met her, spent time getting to know her, to learn from her and I'll always cherish the moments we shared. I miss her, she was simply amazing"
This wasn't the last time I spoke, because the group got into an engaging dialogue. Those who had been fortunate enough to spent time with Erica shared stories, and those who hadn't met her, were able to gain a glimpse into who she was. The stories that people shared both brought tears to eyes, and smiles to faces. We laughed together at how overwhelmingly brilliant Erica was, how quickly she could turn anyones ambitious ramblings into a actionable plan, and how when Erica suggested (in her calm and caring way) to do something - you do it, because you know, who could say no to Erica. But we also cried because Erica was special... and we all believed that she was going to change the world - if not on our team, somewhere or somehow. And even more importantly than the work she was going to do and the impact she was going to have, we just simply enjoyed her loving company.
I learnt a lot from Erica about policy, it's intricacies, how to avoid unintended consequences and how we make meaningful progress, even in light of overwhelming complexity and ambiguity. But what I'll hold dear from this day forward, and what will stay with me longer than any specific idea, action plan or masterful presentation Erica assembled is, how she was, and who she was. Driven, confident, passionate, reliable, hard working and someone who said what they believed, and did what they said. While being consistently kind, caring, genuine and generally a role model for us all. I'm so grateful for the time and space we shared. She has, and forever will, leave a lasting impact on me, and all those fortunate enough to have gotten to know her.

Words fail me and will never be enough to encapsulate just how incredible Erica was. At her Zoom birthday last year, everyone shared one way that Erica has impacted them and it was so beautiful to see how she's touched so many lives. Erica had the most radiant soul, the kindest heart, a sense of adventure, beauty and brains. As heart broken and saddened as I am by her passing, I will continue to remember her for the many ways she touched our lives and the beautiful memories we shared. Whether it was singing our hearts out to Beautiful Liar on a bus in Mexico city or celebrating our friendships with a Galentine's day brunch or having one too many quarantine catch ups during which we lost track of time, my memories with Erica will be forever cherished. I feel so grateful to have had her as a friend.

I’ve known Erica since elementary school at Westbury Friends! She was my math buddy during math class — a mentor of sorts since she was a year older than me. We stayed in touch over the years, but really reconnected again when I got into Kennedy School a year after her and sought her advice on a dual MBA/MPP degree. Erica has a way of making time feel endless. Catch-ups felt like no time had passed, even if we donned brighter backpacks and fewer teeth since our last in-person hangouts. We met on campus while she lived in the student dorms between coastal swaps to the Bay and Cambridge. I wish we had more time on earth with Erica, but the memory and legacy she carries is endless. Erica - Thank you for being such a bright light. I so cherished our time together at GSB, especially during our trip to Iowa. Thank you for showing me how to live with relentless positivity for the future, even when events in our country and the world made me feel hopeless. I will carry your teachings with me forever. I will never forget the smiles of Erica I got to see almost every day at the GSB dorm where she lived just next door. As a newcomer to this country, her friendly greetings made me feel warm. Erica and I were on the same global study trip where our friendship was formally formed. I remember Erica sitting next to me on plane/on dinner table, her energy was always incredible and her passion and intelligence never failed to inspire me. Erica is also a wonderful and encouraging friend who helped me to pursue my goals after graduation. I'm so grateful to have met her - an incredible leader taught me to be selfless and loving. My sincere condolences to Erica's family and friends. Erica will be deeply missed. - Peggy Pan

When I think of Erica, I see her smiling at whoever she's talking to, warmly and joyfully listening and chatting away. I see her giggling as she learned a GSB Show dance, determined to learn it but all with a good amount of fun. Erica had a special ability to make everyone feel welcome around her. She had so much compassion for everyone, for everything, which was especially impressive and admirable in a world that doesn't always make space for people who do. My deepest condolences to the Pincus family and all of Erica's friends. Her warmth will be missed, never forgotten. xx Tamar

Erica was one of those students you never forget. Always last to turn in a test-- not because she was slow to finish -- but because she wanted to check her work to be sure all of her answers were precise and accurate. I remember thinking " This kid is going places." Hard working, dedicated and focused --and she did it all with a smile. I'm so sorry for your loss. sending healing prayers your way.

My deepest condolences to Erica's family. I still have memories of her from the sixth grade. She was easily one of the kindest people that I have ever met. There are truly no words for a loss like this. While I believe she still had much work to do here with us, I know in my heart that the spirit of her kindness and service lives on in the individuals who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In the years I knew Erica as a classmate at Long Island Lutheran, her generosity, her incredible work ethic, and her rare character made a deep impression. She set a standard for kindness, goodness, and responsibility by which I continue to judge others.
