Obituary of Mary Frances Marra

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce Mary Frances Marra (Nee McDermott) passed away on Wednesday, October 21. Mary grew up in Queens Village, one of six children of John and Anna McDermott. Mary was a devout Catholic, attended the Mary Louis Academy and graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in education. She went on to teach preschool and elementary school on Long Island. Mary later changed careers and entered banking, and became branch manager at Fleet Bank, prior to her retirement. Mary had lived in Avon, CT where she resided with her husband, James Marra, prior to his recent passing. Previously Mary and Jim resided in Williston Park and they were long-time parishioners of St. Aidan’s. Mary was a loving mother and mother-in-law to her four children and their spouses, Suzanne and Douglas Hansen, Diana and Charles Lask, Philip and Genevieve Pettinato, and Christopher and Linda Pettinato. Mary was beloved by her 10 grandchildren, Dylan, Arielle, Cayla, Lucas, Philip, Dana, Eric, Elisa, Christopher and William. Mary was a sister to John, James (Maryann), and Kathleen and was pre-deceased by her sisters Ann and Patricia. She is also survived by her 12 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Weigand’s Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Ave, Williston Park, NY. A funeral mass will be held for Mary on Monday, October 26 at St. Aidan’s RC Church, 505 Willis Avenue, Williston Park at 10am.
