Obituary of Robert F. Barber, II
In loving memory of Robert Forrest Barber II, but known to all as Chip.
Chip was born and raised in Lynbrook then Garden City, NY, the youngest of three children born to John and Helen Barber on June 2, 1956. He went to Syracuse University (go ORANGE) before settling back on Long Island and meeting the love of his life, Carol, in December of 1979. He knew instantly he wanted to share his life with Carol and they wed in October of 1980. Chip and Carol resided in Mineola, NY for their 39 years of marriage, building a family and a loving life together. Chip and Carol have 4 children: Sarah, Samantha, Juliet, and Raymond.
Chip was a spiritual man. He prided himself on connecting to people on a personal and spiritual level. He was not afraid of after-life and while he was taken from us too soon, we know he is in his glorious peace. Though he often seemed quiet, he was always available for some dark humor and inappropriate comments. Always.
Chip was passionate about his hobbies and interests. He was a life long hockey fan- Islanders, never the Rangers (except for one brief lapse in judgement). He loved to skate and got us on the ice when we were young. He raised us to love music, everything from The Beatles and Queen to classical musical to Garth Brooks. In his most recent years, Chip’s favorite hobby was building models of airplanes with accuracy and intricate detail in his workshop.
Chip was a gentle man, and doted on his two Yorkie puppies, Moose and Lexi. But most of all, he loved his family. He truly loved his family, and was proud of each and every one of us. Chip was a loving grandfather to his 8 grandchildren- Liam, Erin, Kyle, Madeline, Mia, Violet, James and Nora.
Daddy, how much you will be missed is incomprehensible. We know you will be with us in spirit and our hearts for all of our days.
Chip is survived by his mother, Helen Barber, two siblings, Lee and John, his wife Carol, children Sarah and husband Mitch, Samantha and husband Matt, Juliet and husband Jim, his son Ray, and his 8 beautiful grandchildren. In the words of John Lennon- In his life, he loved us all.
Viewing hours for Chip will be on 12/6 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Weigand Brothers Funeral Home.
