I was saddened to see Chip’s name in the Memrium section of the Spring 2020 SU magazine. Chip and I were floor mates in Lawrinson dorm back in the 70s. I have the distinct recollection of spending time with Chip as we plunked away on our guitars until we figured out Dance with Me, China Grove, and other tunes of the era. It was just a few years back that I tracked him down after 3 decades. We had a great conversation, but never managed to reconnect in person. I will certainly pass on the news to our fellow alumni. My condolences to the family and friends - if a man is remembered by how much he was loved and lived others, Chip’s memory will go on forever. Rest in Peace my friend.

I am very sorry for your loss. Chip was a wonderful person who I was extremely fortunate to have met and worked with over the course of 8 years. He always made time, welcomed as many questions as "the world" would allow, and shared countless words of wisdom with a hearty laugh. He amazed me with his way of seeing the glass as half full, when I was convinced it was broken and impossible to fix.
Chip will always remain an extraordinary gem of a person and be deeply missed.
I pray, his passion for life, compassion for others, and the countless memories you personally shared, comfort you and your family during this time.
Sincerely,
Debra

Chip was always the warmest, most loving man anyone could meet. He always made everyone he talked to feel like the most important person in the world.
I remember so many philosophical and indepth spiritual and motivating conversations with him. He had a gift of insight which he readily shared with others, and had a deep, real interest and compassion for his fellow man.
A very honest and open and umpresumptuous man, he lifted others with his charisma and understanding, he will always be my hero, as he is many others'.
God bless you, Chip, and thank you
Your brother--in-law, loving friend and admirer.
With love Johnny and Lorraine
