Obituary of Mary Ann Rose
Mary Ann Mullally Rose
After a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, Mary Ann Mullally Rose, of Hempstead, NY passed away at home on July 14th. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Agnes Mullally, who lived in Manhasset. She is survived by her loving wife, Victoria (Zenny) Groce, two sons, George Rose and his wife Carrie of Yardley, Pennsylvania and Michael Rose and his wife Kristina of Wallkill, NY, a daughter, Kathleen Sweeney and her husband James of Garden City, NY, and a step-son, Damian Ortiz of New York City. Mary Ann will also live on in the memories of her 13 grandchildren, Hanna, Josephine, Evelyn Marie, Penelope, Aenghus, Lazarus, Brigid, Bonnie, Rosie, Jay, Annie, Mary Kate and Sean, and three step-grandchildren, Arianna, Demetrius and Maximus. She also leaves four sisters, Joan Scales of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Ginger Hallinan of Huntington Station, NY, Noreen McGuire of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Kathleen Mullally of Long Island, NY, two brothers-in-law, Brian Hallinan and Dennis McGuire, and seven nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was a proud graduate of Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, NY, Class of 1958, and up until her death, socialized monthly with a group of Dominican friends who called themselves the “Merry-atrics.” She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from St John’s University and a Master’s degree from Hofstra University. A fierce advocate for children and their teachers, Mary Ann spent almost three decades as a reading teacher in the Freeport School System. During this time, she was also a master tutor to countless students and served as a Union representative. In later years, she worked tirelessly as a Regional Leader for Primerica, and was recently honored for her accomplishments on behalf of her many clients.
Mary Ann was truly a spark of light in every circle she traveled. She will be deeply missed and mourned by her family and her many, many friends and colleagues.
Visiting hours will be July 20, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Weigand Brothers Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Ave., Williston Park, NY 11596. The Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on July 21, 2018 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 147 Campbell Avenue, Williston Park, NY.
