Obituary of Richard Phillip Cavallaro

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Phillip Cavallaro, 28, of Roslyn Heights, NY passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 in Richmond Va.. He is lovingly survived by his parents Richard Cavallaro of Huntington, N.Y. and Rosemarie Cavallaro of Roslyn Heights, N.Y. and his sisters Adriana Cavallaro of New York, NY; Dena Cavallaro of Roslyn Heights, NY; and a large loving family.

Richie attended the Herricks School District and continued on to college. He graduated from Hofstra University in December of 2012, with a degree in Information Technology. Richie, as he was affectionally called, landed a job as an information technology specialist with the Iowa State commission for the Blind and lived in Des Moines Iowa for three years. In June of this year he accepted a position as a technology teacher, with the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired in Richmond Virginia.

Richie was a preemie, born four months early and weighed only 1lb. 10oz. and beat all odds to survive his difficult beginning. Through the healing processes he lost his sight and was blind from birth. Richie saw everyone around him through his heart. He was a big personality who everyone wanted to be around. Richie was a compassionate, courageous and a driven young man who impacted so many people with his fortitude and compassion. He was a technology genius who was always willing to help others, he continually answered phone calls from friends and family helping with technology issues.

Richie loved his music, and playing the piano and getting everyone to sing-a -long, truly the life of the party. When he was playing the piano and singing people were just drawn to him, it was magic. He adored his sisters and his large extended family and we all adored him too. His life on earth was way too short but we will cherish every minute, and every memory of him.

Family and friends may visit Weigand Brothers Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Avenue, Williston Park, NY 11596 from 2-4:30 pm and 7-9pm on Tuesday, November 21st. His funeral mass will be at St. Aidans at 505 Willis Ave, Williston Park NY at 10am on November 22nd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind and /or our GoFundMe for a scholarship fund for special needs and music students.
