Dorothy, my mother's sister's daughter, was 14 years older than me. At family gatherings during my childhood, she always paid kind attention to the younger cousins. Once, on a Sunday afternoon in the mid 1950s when I was the only child present, she offered to take me to the movies. She was shocked when I chose "Godzilla," but she swallowed hard and indulged the peculiar tastes of a 10-year-old. I had a good time, and I hope she did too, because I have always recalled that day fondly.

I still remember the fun I had staying at your home between Christmas and New Year's Day in 1982. As well as all of the fun things we did--visiting Old Bethpage, seeing 42nd Street on Broadway, seeing the store windows decorated for the holidays--I remember Mrs. Aldrich's kindness and her efforts to make me feel comfortable in a strange place. You have my condolences.
