I knew Mrs. Lucke as a friend of her daughter Shelley while the two of us were in high school and as adults. She was one of the "moms" of a close circle of diverse friends and I always enjoyed visiting at their home. Back then, I simply thought that Mrs. Lucke had a great sense of style; I didn't know until now just how accomplished she was! Mrs. Lucke was one great lady -

Ms. Lucke was like a second mom to me. She kept me out of trouble as I was coming up through my younger years when I was attending Mineola Junior High School. I used to roam the halls of the school as I would tell the teachers that I was going to the bathroom. And for some reason I would ALWAYS run into Mrs. Lucke! But she wouldn't turn me into the princip;le though. She would just give me a warm smile and say "Where are you going?" and I would say "Back to class?" and she would walk me back to class. I had no idea that she lived across the street from me till one day I was walking to school because I was late. (Again!) And just like clock work guess who I ran into? Mrs. Lucke! She just seemed to be there making sure my path stayed pointed towards my education and I loved her for that!
