GREAT. That's a word that is often overused or misused in describing someone or something. In the case of Charlie Zahn, it doe not nearly describe him. He was a great friend, teammate, and classmate. He always had encouraging words for everyone and could make you laugh just with that sly smile he gave you. He was a terrific athlete, who was naturally gifted in every sport he ever played. But, more than all those things, he was just a great person. I will miss you Charlie, and will always remember you as being so much more than great!

Some time back in 1982 I spotted one of Abbott's big rack trucks parked at 520 Madison Ave on the corner of 54th St. and Madison Ave.. I jumped up on the back of the truck and approached a young man sitting on a tool box by himself waiting to go to the next job. I introduced myself as a Union Brother and so did he to me. That proud young man was Charlie. We talked about our both being Union Glazier's and from that first day on we called each other by name. He never once called me "Ace" and I never once called him "Kid". We had a fond respect for each other no matter what. That has always lasted. Charlie was always most proud to be a Union Glazier and at times most vociferous when it came to the Union.... Though very saddened by the news of Charlie's passing I know that St. Peter heard these words at the gate:"Yo! Ace! I was called here for the 'pump'! Com' on Ace! Let's get it done!"....Charlie, my 1087 Union Brother, you are one I could never forget. So many memories... May you rest in peace always.... To Charlie's family from mine, we extend our most sincerest condolences.....
