Huysman, Virginia Rose (Nee Britton), of Amityville, N.Y., died Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. April 17, 1918, to Margaret and George Britton. She graduated from Corpus Christi School and Mineola High School in 1936. She then worked as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company. Virginia, also known as "Ginny," married Martin T. Huysman (deceased) on December 17, 1941. A dedicated parishioner at St. Aidan's Parish, Ginny served as president of the Mother's Club, president of the Rosary Society and a Eucharistic minister. She enjoyed a 20-year retirement with her beloved husband Marty in Mount Upton, N.Y. She was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, N.Y. serving as a Eucharistic minister, Rosary Society member and an organizer of the annual Harvest Festival. For the past six years, she resided at Dominican Village in Amityville, N.Y. She shared her spirit serving as a Eucharistic minister, welcoming new residents to the community and acting as a member on the Resident Council. She went on to live at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, N.Y. for the past nine months. A saint for being a mother of seven sons, Ginny will be remembered for her volunteerism, compassion and optimistic character. Ginny is now at rest and peace in the hands of God with the love of her life. She is survived by her sons Martin, Raymond, Michael, Paul, Dennis, David, and Thomas and their families including 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's honor to Dominican Village, 565 Albany Ave., Amityville, N.Y. 11701. Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 27, 4 -8 p.m. at Weigand Brothers Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Ave., Williston Park, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Aidan, 505 Willis Ave., Williston Park on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow on Monday, Nov. 30 at noon at the New York Veterans Home Cemetery, Oxford, N.Y. Her family wishes to express their appreciation to the communities of Dominican Village, Maria Regina Residence and Good Samaritan Hospital for their loving care of Virginia.
