Murray, William Thomas, 84, on September 10, 2009. Predeceased by beloved wife Joan. Cherished father of Bonnie (Bob), Eddie (Sally), Nancy (Chuck) and Lauren (Jerry). Loving Grandfather of Jim, Billy, Edward, Danny, Kately, Wyatt, Scott and Justin. Proud Great Grandfather of Jimmy, Adam, Evan and Annaliese. Born on May 9, 1925 in Ozone Park, New York. Served four years in U.S. Navy, in the Pacific during WWII. Retired from the NYPD as a Detective after 21 years of service. Then worked as a Special Investigator with Eastern States Bank Card Assoc. for another nineteen years. Bill was larger than life, loved by everyone, and lived for his family, friends and church. He was an active member of the Hillside United Methodist Church for 45 years, teaching Sunday School, running fairs, retreats, blood drives, and anything he was asked to do. His marriage was one of a kind, and he never got over losing the love of his life, Joan, in February. Now they are reunited and watching over their family from above. Bill's love and pride for his children and grandchildren was always in every word he spoke. He was a pioneer of the area, and cornerstone of the extended "Herricks family", where he lived since 1951. He was the unofficial "Mayor" of the neighborhood. His sudden passing has left an emptiness in us that cannot be filled.Friends may visit Sunday 2-5 & 7-9 PM. Religious service Sunday 8 PM.
