Obituary of Gabriele Conte

Gabriele Conte 84, of Mineola, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Winthrop University Hospital (NYU Langone) surrounded by his loving family.

Gabriele was born in San Tomasso, Italy on June 8, 1940.  He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Anna, daughter Delia DiFiore and son-in-law Anthony, grandchildren Lisa Marie and Anthony Gabriel and predeceased by daughter Lisa.  Born to Barteluccia and Vincenzo Conte, Gabriele was the youngest of 9 children, Francesco, Pasquale, Anna, Attilio, Elena, Angelina, Marie and Tonino, all of which predeceased him.

Gabriele worked as a laborer in the construction industry through the Excavators Union Local 731 for over 35 years.  The construction industry taught him how to build, and with his family and friends, he enjoyed renovating each other’s houses and was an integral part of the team.  Always available to be a handyman, his motto was “There is nothing that can’t be done if you put your mind to it.”  He especially enjoyed gardening, making wine, dancing, and a good meal with his family and friends.  In it all, he brought laughter, a lot of laughter.

Although a traumatic brain injury left him severely limited and eventually in a wheelchair for the past 25 years, he was always positive and had a smile on his face.  Gabriele was dedicated and committed to his family, and those who were fortunate to have known him, will always remember his great personality and the joy he brought to the table.  He was loved by everyone.  He will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts.  May he rest in peace.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 21 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Weigand Brothers Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Avenue, Williston Park, NY.  Funeral Mass will be on Friday, November 22 at 10:00am at the Church of St. Aidan, 505 Willis Avenue, Williston Park, NY.  Entombment will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY.
