Bob and I became instant friends when he moved in across the street and noticed my bearded iris growing in flower beds on top of my garage roof. Barely after introducing himself, he asked if he could have some of the irises the next time I thinned them. Over the years we bonded over opera, organ concerts, old-time movies, gardening and cooking. He taught me how to make a killer marinara sauce, while I would make him his favorite lemon bars using lemons from his garden. We attended shows and concerts several times a year. And of course, there was always a good meal either before or after the event. I took care of his animals when he was out of town (chickens, dogs, fish). He let me know when a strange vehicle was parked in front of my house (usually a repair person). We became family. I will miss my friend, miss our silly/nasty texts, and miss trading bits of food when we tried new recipes. Rest in Peace, Bob. You were loved by many, and all our hearts are aching now.
