Obituary of John J. Healey

John J. Healey- 97 years young! He arrived at the gates of Heaven on Aug. 8, 2024.

He was born in the Bronx, NY on April 25, 1927 to Catherine and Peter Healey. After serving in the US Army, he worked at AMF and it is there that he met the love of his life, his wife Marilyn (nee Mullarney).  They were married for 42 years prior to her death in 2001. They resided in Stuyvesant Town in NYC before moving to Port Washington, NY where he remained for 50 years.

They were blessed with 3 daughters: Cathy Henry (predeceased by her husband James), Eileen (Stephen)Yost and Mary(Manny) Alas. He is also survived by his cherished sister, Sr. Mary Stephen Healey of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion.

In addition, he is survived by his adored grandchildren: Chris Henry (Meaghan), Mary Froccaro (Jeff), Brendan Henry (Maggie), Erin Dickinson (Brett), Matthew Yost (Brock Grecco), Colleen Leonard ( Nicholas), Brian Alas (Taylor), Kevin Alas (Kelsey) and Michael Alas (Kristen).

Last but not least, his 14 great grandchildren: Brennen, Eliza and Brody Dickinson,

Theo, Madeline, Clare, Olivia, Annie, Isabel, Elizabeth and Andrew Alas, Liam and Gavin Henry and Jeff Froccaro.

He was an avid NY sports fan but especially devoted to the NY Mets. He happily shared this passion with his children and grandchildren.

He was also a long suffering Jets fan and enjoyed the resurgence of the Knicks.

LET’S GO METS!!!!

We would like to formally extend our eternal gratitude to the staff at the Long Island State Veteran’s Home for lovingly caring for him in the final years of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that donations be made on his behalf to the Sisters of the Divine Compassion ( website: divinecompassion.org) or the Long Island State Veteran’s Home ( website: veteranshome.stonybrook.edu).
