Obituary of Francis G. Murphy

Francis Gerard Murphy
May 28, 1933-January 23, 2024

Francis (Frank) Gerard Murphy was born on May 28, 1933 to Francis Murphy and Gertrude McGovern in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He grew up with his siblings, William, Patricia and James, all whom he adored and have predeceased him. According to family lore, they did not have a lot of money but they had a lot of fun.

Frank graduated from John Adams High School and shortly thereafter served his country during the Korean War.

When he returned from the Army, he met Mary Hayes at a dance and shortly thereafter, they were married on May 27, 1961. They would start a family with the birth of their son Gerard (Helen) followed by Eileen, Grace (Kevin) and Denis (Denise).

Frank served the city of New York as a member of the Fire Department for 29 years, and spent his retirement golfing, and traveling the world with his beloved wife. Frank’s greatest accomplishment, however, was serving as beloved grandfather to Tara, Dylan, Erin, Grace and Javier. He is survived by his family and many loving nieces and nephews. Dad, we love you right back!
