Obituary of Donato C. Sassano

Donato C. Sassano of Williston Park, NY passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024, at the age of 90 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 26, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to Edward and Lena Sassano. Donato was a beloved father, brother, uncle and friend. Donato or Don as he liked to be called is survived by his loving daughter Stephanie Sassano. Beloved husband of the late Jennie C. Sassano. Loving brother of Edward Sassano, Thomas Sassano, Louise Albano, Ann Celentano, Irene Biasi (deceased), Carmela Russell (deceased), Michael Sassano (deceased), Robert Sassano (deceased), and dearly loved by his girlfriend Mary Blessinger of 30 years. Don was a Koren War Veteran in the United States Army, he loved serving his country and continued that service when he joined the American Legion Post #144, and was Commander from 1985-1986 and later was honored to be a Lifetime Member. He ran many events like the Memorial Day Service and Parade, the Street fair, Work Parties, visiting Wounded soldiers in the hospital and so many more. Don will be remembered for his love of family, his love for his community, all the back in the day stories, his love of the NY Mets, Westerns especially featuring John Wayne, but most importantly to many for his really bad jokes. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his soul rest in peace.
