Obituary of Robert John Cave
Reverend Robert John Cave left this world on September 23, 2023 at the age of 90. He born in Manhattan, New York. He was raised in South Aqueduct and then eventually Richmond Hill, Queens, New York. He married June Riedell in1955 (divorced in 1961). They had a son Robert John Cave, jr., PhD. He married Lois Palmland in 1961 to whom he was married until her death in 2011 (50 years). They had a son, John S. Cave.
He was highly educated with a BA from Long Island University, a MDiv. from Drew University and a Master of Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary. In 1950-1952, he served active duty in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and six years inactive duty.
During his life he had a variety of jobs. He worked for the Long Island Railroad, as an Insurance Adjustor and in 1967, he was ordained a minister in the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served in seven United Methodist Churches until he retired in 2000.
He was a very active Freemason. Honors included: Master of his Lodge, High Priest of his Royal Arch Chapter, Master of his Cryptic Council, Commander of his Commandery of Knight’s Templar, York Rite
Mason, 33rd degree Mason, Shriner, Grand Chaplin of the Grand Lodge of New York, Grand Chaplin of the Grand Royal Arch of New York, Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of the Knights Templar of New York, Grand Chaplain of the Grand Encampment USA, and Primate General of the York Rite Sovereign College.
His hobbies included hunting, shooting, traveling and reading. He was family oriented and enjoyed spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by John Cave, son, Amee Cave (wife), Susie Cave, (wife of the late Robert Cave, Jr), Grandchildren: Ian Cave, Shaina Davis (wife), Jessica Cave, John Cave, Jr., Megan Cave (wife), Companion: Roxanne Block
He is preceded in death by Lois Cave, Robert Cave and Adam Cave (grandchild). He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. We would love you to come and honor his life at Weigand Bros Funeral Home, Thursday 9/28/23 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Service to follow At 10:30 am. Interment w/ Military Honors Calverton National Cemetery.
