It is with love and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Frances Mary Smith, 98, who died peacefully at home in Calverton, NY on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 surrounded by her loving children, Patricia, Jane, Kathleen, Maryellen and Michael. After a brief illness, her loving son, Thomas, joined her in heaven later that same day. It was part of God’s plan for her to be there to welcome him.


Frances was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 4 th , 1925 to her loving parents, John and Mary Lennon. Her brother, Jack and sister, Patricia, passed away as children when Mom was 13 years old. She married her husband, and dance partner, Thomas John Smith, Sr., on November 13 th , 1948 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Corona, Queens, NY. He predeceased her on April 7 th , 1997. They purchased their first home in Albertson, NY in 1952 and became members of St Aidan Parish in Williston Park. Frances was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and Mother’s Club. They moved to Williston Park in 1962 where her six children attended St. Aidan’s School.


She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ellen; sons-in-law Thomas Mars, Manny Benisatto and Joe Lester; grandchildren TJ, Christine (Michael), Jennifer (Adam), Allison (Joe), Keri (Charlie), Gregory (Daniella), Daniel (Katie); great grandchildren Annabelle, Bryce, Lila, Adelyn, Cooper, Finn, Nola, Ford, Luca and Gianna. They were the loves of her life.


Frances enjoyed a tremendously active, fun-filled, adventurous life and will be truly missed by all. May she rest in peace. Her funeral services will be at Weigand’s Funeral Home in Williston Park on Wednesday, August 2 nd from 4-8 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be at St. Aidan’s Church on Thursday, August 3rd at 10 am.
