Obituary of Eleftherios Mamais

Please share a memory of Eleftherios to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eleftherios Mamais on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at the age of 77.  After several years of declining health due to Alzheimers, he passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Asimina; devoted father and father-in-law of Stavroula, Petros, Kalliope, Joseph, Angelique, and Yorgos; and cherished grandfather of Pietro, Eleftherios, Maria, Asimina, Alexa and Arieva. He is also survived by his brothers Giannoulis and Thanasi; as well as many loving family members and special friends.

Eleftherios was born in Andros, Greece on June 4, 1944, to father Petros Mamais and mother Kalliope Mamais.  The youngest of six sons, he immigrated to America at a young age. Born and raised in a small village, Eleftherios left with a strong work ethic and big dreams and moved to New York, where he established himself as an entrepreneur and co-owner of Mamais Construction. His strong work ethic and desire to care for his family, not only led him to achieve the American dream, but also led him to leave behind a legacy of kindness, strength and compassion that will be cherished for many years to come.

Eleftherios was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and also loved to bowl and dance. Despite his career accomplishments and interest, he would say that his greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He always made everyone feel welcome and cared for with his daily acts of kindness and generosity. His big heart, support and empathy along with his bright smile and zest for life will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Anyone wishing to honor Eleftherios’s lifelong commitment to his family and community can make donations in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association using the following link:
