Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Owens, a long time resident of Queens, N.Y., passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 29, 2020. She was 96 years of age. Mary had been residing at an assisted living facility in Port St. Lucie, Fl. for the past two and a half years. The youngest of four children, she was born Mary Margaret Kilkenny in County Roscommon, Ireland. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was very young. They settled in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church, up until 1954. At that time Mary and her mother moved to Queens Village, where they became active members of Incarnation Parish. In 1958 Mary married Joseph Owens, an attorney for the New York City Corporation Counsel. They had two children, David, born in 1960, and Michael, born in 1962. Mary worked as a secretary for several years for a variety of companies. Her husband passed away in 1979, and three years later the family moved to the Whitestone section of Queens. Mary was a member of St. Mel's Parish for 35 years before relocating to Florida in November of 2017. To those who knew Mary throughout her life, she will always be remembered for her strong faith, kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humor. She was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother and friend. Mary is survived by her son Michael and daughter in law Maritza, as well as several nieces, nephews and a list of friends far too numerous to count. Following a brief service at St. Mel's Church, Mary will be laid to rest alongside her son David at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Flushing.
