Obituary of Malamaty Theoharous

Malamaty Theoharous, 84, of East Williston, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 3rd after a valiant battle with cancer. 

Mal was born July 10th, 1934 in New York, New York and grew up in Astoria, Queens. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Queens College. She enjoyed her career as the Director of Personnel for Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty in New York, Washington DC, and Munich for over 30 years. 

Mal is preceded in death by her father John Theoharous and her mother Theodora Theoharous (née Cambouris). 

She is survived by her sister Ann Gotsis of Old Westbury, NY; her nephew Bill Gotsis (wife Nancy Linneman) of Goshen, NY; her niece Joanne Gotsis of NY, NY and great nephew Alexander Gotsis and great niece Kristen Gotsis also of Goshen, NY in addition to many family members in Missouri, Virginia, Greece, and many friends locally and afar. 

Visitation will be held at Weigand Brothers Funeral Home in Williston Park NY on Friday, Nov. 9th from 3-8 pm. 

Funeral service will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, Nov. 10th at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, Port Washington, NY.  Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Astoria NY.
