Madelyn S. Bushey, of New Hyde Park, NY passed away peacefully on February 8, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born on December 18, 1923 in Clayburg, NY the second child of Alma (nee Bell) and Shirley Strack and grandchild of Delima (nee Lafountain) and George Bell. She grew up in Redford, NY and graduated from St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh, NY after her family moved to Beekmantown, NY while her father served as the first Commissioner of Welfare of Clinton County during the Roosevelt administration. She graduated from the College of St. Rose, in Albany, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1943. She was married to William E. Bushey in 1947 until his death in 1981. She was active in her parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, Elmira New York, as a Eucharistic Minister, and performed countless unsung charitable acts throughout her life. She was predeceased by her sister, Myrtle Mero, and two brothers, Raymond and Clarence Strack. She is survived by a daughter, Karen B. Lukas of New Hyde Park, NY, a son, William L. Bushey, of Elmira, NY (where the family relocated in 1965), and a grandson, Evan Lukas, of Tonawanda, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Alvin Strack, of Naples, FL and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Final arrangements were by Weigand Bros., Inc. of Williston Park, NY. She will be interred at St. Peter's Cemetery, where her beloved mother and husband are buried.
Memorial service is scheduled for Monday-February 20, 2017 at 10:00 am St John's Lutheran Church. The Church is located at the corner of Cornell St and Willis Ave., Williston Park, NY.
