Obituary of Carolyn A. Bantz

Carolyn Bantz (nee Geddes) passed away at age 80 on the evening of March 3 rd 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a slowly developing illness. She is the daughter of Roland and Alice Geddes (nee Thorndahl), and is survived by her brothers Robert (Diane) and Richard (Patricia), with her third brother Roland deceased. Her nieces Jayne Schroeder, Krissy Perlowski, Suzie Dunlop, and Lisa Casolani were the light of her life, along with her nieces and nephews Laura, Allison, Robert, and Richard. She is godmother to Allison and Suzie, and twins Kevin and Jeffrey Spiletic. She is also survived by her beloved partner of over 20 years, Russ Gorog.

Carolyn received her BA in education in 1966, her MS in Education in 1972, and her MS in Linguistic Education in 1991. She spent her career teaching in New York City public schools, and was certified as a Teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL) in 1992. In 2003, Carolyn moved from her house in Bayside, Queens, to an apartment in Whitestone, Queens. She had a number of cats over the years and loved them all. She continued developing her interest in Horticulture and gardening, taking courses at the New York Botanic Garden, becoming involved with the Long Island Horticultural Society, and becoming a Master Gardener at Cornell Cooperative Extension, Nassau County. She gardened around her apartment building, designing, planting, and maintaining flowers and shrubs to brighten everyone’s day.

Viewing will be held on March 8, 2024 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm at Weigand Bros. Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Avenue, Williston Park, NY. Interment will be on Saturday, March 9 th , at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 100 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Carolyn’s name.
