Obituary of John Patrick Moore

MOORE- John P., 93, of Albertson passed away peacefully on June 14th surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. He was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Mary, his wife and their son John.Born and raised in New York City, John served proudly as a United States Marine during WWII on the USS Iowa, earning 18 battle stars. He was present for the signing of the Peace Treaty that ended the war in 1945. He had a distinguished 34-year career in the New York City Police Department serving in the Tactical Patrol Force, Chief of Detectives Office and Commander, Queens Robbery Squad. Upon retiring in 1981, John became Director of Security at two major City Hospitals. John was graduate of Fordham University receiving a B.A. at the age of fifty. John was a devout parishioner of St. Aidan's for 62 years. In addition, he was the president of the Holy Name Society, collection counter, bar Chairman-Veterans of Foreign War, member of the American Legion, Herricks leisure club, Retired Lieutenants Association and the Retired Superior Officers Association. John was a devoted dad to Mary Beth, Johnny, Tom (Cathy) Ed (Denise) and Joe (Kathy). He was a beloved grand-father to Connor, Alexandra, Tom, Kristin and Kelly and doting great-grandfather to Shea and Kieran. He lived his motto of, "All I want is a kind word and a warm smile." He was known for being an especially kind and caring person. He had a big heart and brightened the lives he touched with his humor, generosity, friendship and laughter. Relatives may pay their respects on Thursday, June 16th, at Weigands Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Ave., Williston Park, NY 11596 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, at 11:15 p.m. at St. Aidan Church, Williston Park. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity, 85-10 61st Rd., Rego Park, NY 11374 or to the Special Olympics.
