George James Black, 80 years old, of Westbury, New York, passed away on August 8, 2026, at his home. 

Visitation will be held at 49 Hillside Avenue, Williston Park, New York on August 16th.  Weigand Brothers Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. 

George was born in Flushing, New York to George and Ruth Black on January 23, 1946. He attended Carle Place High School and graduated in 1964. George inherited his mother’s talent and love for art and went on to earn a master’s degree in art from C.W. Post. He worked at several different colleges and universities as an art professor for numerous years. George was a talented teacher who was successful in teaching both college and adult classes through a broad spectrum of art courses across different mediums. He enjoyed teaching greatly and would often talk about his interactions with his students and colleagues. George valued many of the friendships he made through his teaching profession.  Although he did not have any children,

George was a very loving and supportive Uncle and Great Uncle to Kelly and Gina and their children.  

George is survived by his two brothers, Robert and Roger, his sister-in-law, Frances, nieces, Kelly Smith, married to Mark Smith, and Gina Mendenhall, married to Jay Mendenhall as well as their children, Adelyn Smith, Zoe Smith, Eli Smith, Maddox Mendenhall, Mercy Mendenhall, Justice Mendenhall, and Morleigh Mendenhall. He is preceded in death by his parents, George

and Ruth Black.
