It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Marie Powers, who passed away on August 8, 2026.

Doreen was the firstborn child of Ruth and Frank Powers of Mineola, and the “Original” of the Powers 7. As she would proudly say, she paved the way for her siblings—Brian, Martin, Pat, Daniel, Beth, and Jeanine. She was an amazing sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many.

She was a loving mother to Justin and Devin (Jen), and a very proud grandmother to Jack, Peyton, and Sean. She shared 39 years of love, friendship, laughter, and a special bond with her longtime partner, Cory Bennett.

Her family meant the world to her, and she especially cherished every moment with her grandchildren. She was also a beloved aunt and great-aunt to many—too many to count—and treasured the special relationships she had with each of them.

Doreen loved to see new things, experience new adventures, and, of course, enjoy a good glass—or two—of Riesling. She had a special love for teddy bears, a quirky nature, and a gift for turning ordinary moments into great stories and even better laughs.

She had many special friendships throughout her life, and if you were lucky enough to be one of her friends, you know exactly what made Doreen so special.

Doreen is welcomed into Heaven with open arms by her parents, Ruth, Frank and Gerry, and the Rudolf Road gang. We can only imagine the reunion—and we're sure there are already plenty of laughs and glasses being raised.

Doreen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

We ask that you remember Doreen through the stories you tell, the laughter you share, when you see a teddy bear, or while enjoying a cocktail of your choice. In those moments, we hope you smile, think of Doreen, and remember the joy she brought into your life.

Doreen’s wake service will be held at Weigand’s Funeral Home in Williston Park, NY, on Friday, August 14, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, at Corpus Christi Church in Mineola.
