SCHNELLE, Elizabeth Jeanne (née Conway)

September 3, 1928 - August 2, 2026

Elizabeth “Betty” Jeanne Schnelle of Williston Park, New York passed away at 97 years old. She lived an extraordinary life filled with love, family and enduring faith.

Betty Jeanne was the beloved wife of the late Robert Schnelle, mother of the late Elizabeth (Betsy) and Robert Karman, Robert and Laura Schnelle, and Patricia and Robert Monaco.

A matriarch of the family, she was grandmother to Kim, Kevin, Chris, Robby and Thomas, Joe and Nick, and Matt and Mike.  She was delighted that her grandchildren welcomed Kathryn, Lindsey, Jesse, Kate, Ciarán and Katie into our family in marriage. She was a beloved great-grandmother to Ellie, Brayden, Maggie, Kendall, Finn, Anna, Ryan, Riley, Jack, Shay and Romeo. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Conway of Glenwood Landing, New York and sister to Patricia Johnson and Loretta Raymond.

Betty was a teacher’s aide at St. Aidan School in Williston Park and an active member of the Church of St. Aidan Parish for many years. Betty and husband Bob were co-chair couple of the annual St Aidan’s blood bank drive. Betty served on the Board of Directors of the St Aidan’s Mothers’ Club. She was not only a selfless grandmother but she extended her kindness to the wider community.  After her retirement, Betty became a dedicated volunteer in the pediatric care unit at Winthrop Hospital. She spent over 1,500 hours providing support to those who needed hospital care and was named Winthrop Volunteer of the Year in 2018.

Her selflessness, kindness and resilience live on in the lives of her family and all those that she interacted with. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s honor would be greatly received at the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in support of families of first responders.
