James G. Masterson Obituary
James “Jimmy” Masterson, beloved brother, uncle, godfather, and friend, passed
away peacefully on April 18, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. He was 66 years
old.
Born on June 16, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York, Jimmy spent much of his life on
Long Island, making his mark on the people fortunate enough to be in his circle. A
proud volunteer firefighter with the East Williston Fire Department, Jimmy
believed in giving back.
Jimmy was a man of simple and genuine pleasures. He loved music with a
devotion few could match, amassing an impressive collection of vinyl, CDs, and
cassette tapes spanning the best decades rock and roll had to offer. He loved the
Mets and the Rangers and looked forward to every season. He loved animals,
riding his bike, and the satisfaction of getting somewhere on his own two feet.
When he had money to spare, he gave it away, to the ASPCA, to St. Jude’s, and to
Tunnel to Towers.
But what Jimmy loved most was his family. He was the uncle who got down on
the floor and played, who delighted children with magic tricks that left them wide
eyed and giggling, who pushed you on the tire swing until your arms gave out
before his did. He had a huge heart and a gentle soul, and while he didn’t always
have the words for what he felt, the people who knew him never doubted that he
loved them.
Jimmy is survived by his brothers Scott and Doug Masterson, his sister-in-law Lisa
Markowitz, his nieces Katie Roland, Krista Masterson, Sarah Pierce, and Erin Grace
Masterson, and his great-nephews Ben and JoJo Roland. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Jim and Mickey Masterson, and his sister, Debbie
Masterson.
A Wake will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Weigand
