John Sweeney, age 61, of Mineola, NY passed away on April 16, 2026. He was born on May 21, 1964 in Queens, NY to James Sweeney and Elizabeth Ascher. He will be remembered for his 40 year career at Madison Square Garden and for being an incredibly kind, positive, and humorous person well-loved by all. He is survived by his wife Mary (Burns), his son Sean, his brother Anthony and sister-in-law Judy (Lee), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Karen Burns, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Teresa Burns, his nieces and nephews Casey, Corey (married to Julia, children: 2 daughters), Ann Marie (married to Oscar Molina, children: 2 sons), James, Paul, Robert, and Katelyn. John’s wake service will be held from 4-7 PM at Weigand Funeral Home in Williston Park, NY on Monday, 4/20/26. John’s funeral service will be held at 10 AM at St. Aidan’s Church in Williston Park, NY on Tuesday, 4/21/26.
