Sarah was the first in her family to go to college and graduated from

Hunter College in1949 with a degree in Political Science. After her children

were in school, she became a substitute teacher at various Catholic

schools in the Diocese of Rockville Center and eventually moved to the

Mineola Public Schools where she was the Secretary to the Superintendent

of Buildings & Grounds and later became the President of the Secretaries’

Union.

A devout Catholic, Sarah was a member of Corpus Christi Parish in

Mineola from 1958 until her death, serving as a CCD Teacher, Eucharistic

Minister, and a member of The Catholic Daughters of America. She was

devoted to her faith and family, her greatest blessings. Sarah and Larry

loved to travel, attend the Theater and the Opera, and eat out with friends.

She was a voracious reader, especially of historical fiction, an avid Yankees

fan, and a long-time patron of PBS Masterpiece Theater. She was known in

her family for her beautiful operatic singing voice, particularly for singing the

Ave Maria, which a lovely Catholic Sister sang to her at her bedside the

day she passed.

In the last 10 years, Sarah became a member of the Golden Age

Seniors Group of Mineola and treasured the friendships and times spent

there.

98 years of living is an incredible blessing and although she will be

greatly missed, we, her family are so thankful and blessed to have had

such an amazing woman as our Matriarch for 70 years and will carry her

memory with us always.
