Ann Smith Obituary

Ann Smith, of Albertson, NY, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at age 89. Ann is survived by her daughter Catherine, her son James and daughter-in-law Emily, and her granddaughter, Annie. Ann was predeceased by her daughter Sarah and her beloved husband, Jimmy.

The heart and soul of her family, Ann was a doting wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, known for her warm heart and brilliant sense of humor. Extremely generous, when asked what she would do if she won the lottery, her only dream was to throw a huge party for her extended family where she would share her winnings with them.  She often signed report cards, “Delighted! Ann Smith,” earning her the nickname Delighted Ann Smith among her children. They also called her Annie Andretti on occasion, whenever she would uncharacteristically drive above the speed limit. The strongest member of the Smith family, Ann was the rock that her family leaned upon during their weakest moments, and their greatest cheerleader.

Ann met her husband Jimmy in 1958, while they were both working at the Equitable Paper Bag Co. in Long Island City. Jimmy had recently arrived from Dublin, Ireland; and Ann was Italian—so Italian, in fact, that her birth certificate calls her Anna because, when the hospital administrator asked for the name, her father’s accent was so strong that when he said Ann, it sounded like “Ann-ah.” Ann and Jimmy quickly fell in love, and were happily married for 61 years. They cherished their quality time together, and would go on dates right up until it was no longer possible. After a lengthy battle, during which she showed her tremendous heart and strength, Ann is finally at rest, and happily reunited with Jimmy.
