Margaret D. Moriarty Obituary

On March 25, 2026 Margaret Moriarty passed away peacefully at home at the age of 93. She was surrounded by love throughout her life and gave so much love in return. Margaret was born on Nov. 2, 1932 in Longford, Ireland. She came to America in 1950 aboard the SS Washington at 18 years of age. She met her husband, Maurice, at the Jager Dance Hall in NYC where the Irish immigrants gathered for dancing and fun times. They were married on Oct. 20, 1956 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church on Park Ave, NY. They were blessed with three children Jimmy (Kathy), Margaret Mary (Mike) and Teresa (Bill). Their family grew with 7 grandchildren: Jimmy, Kristin, Ryan, Katie, Billy, Christopher and Scott, and 17 great grandchildren: Jimmy, Liam, Ava, Emeline, Madison, Claire, Victoria, Scarlett, Morrison, Watson, Maguire, William, Patrick, Theodore, Cooper, Paige and Lorelei. Margaret was so proud of her family, she instilled in everyone how important family is and how to be there for each other. She adored her grandchildren and couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them; she was their best cheerleader and told them often how wonderful they are. She loved being surrounded by her family. Her devotion to all of us was apparent every day of our lives.

Margaret cherished her Irish heritage and loved to celebrate it as a member of the Irish American Center in Mineola. Whenever she met someone, she would ask ask “ Have you ever been to Ireland?” and “Did you love your time there?” She loved Irish music, and to see Margaret and Maurice waltz together as they floated around the dance floor was pure joy! Margaret will be remembered as a strong Irish woman filled with laughter and love of life. So, the next time you enjoy a cup of tea we hope that you think of her and cherish your memories together.
