Cornelius "Neil" Murphy Obituary
Neil was born in the Bronx, New York, to immigrant Irish parents. At the age of five, he moved to Far Rockaway Beach, where he grew up as the oldest of five children. Neil graduated from Far Rockaway High School, where he showed a strong aptitude for mathematics. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Baruch College. Neil worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Manhattan for 40 years, where he managed the actuarial department.
Neil was married to his beloved wife, Maureen, for 61 years before she predeceased him. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and his sister. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and vacationing—especially trips to Woodloch Pines, where he celebrated his 90th birthday. Neil was an adventurous eater who would try anything he was dared to. He had a wonderful sense of humor and often laughed to the point of tears. He will be deeply missed.
