With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Emily O’Sullivan, who entered eternal rest peacefully at home on December 12, 2025, surrounded by her beloved children, grandchildren and devoted family.
Emily was born on December 30, 1940 in Laharan South, Caherciveen, Co. Kerry, Ireland to John (Jack) McCarthy and Hannah (nee Moriarty). She emigrated to New York in 1963, and at the age of 25 she married the love of her life, John (Jack) O’Sullivan (Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry, Ireland).
Emily shared a loving marriage with Jack, and they spent 35 cherished years together, and forever after. They settled in the Inwood section of Manhattan in Good Shepherd Parish where they raised their three children, prior to moving to Queens in 1980.
Jack predeceased her in 2001, and her heart always carried him. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Bridie and Maureen, as well as her brother, Francie.
Emily will be remembered for her simple life, lived without complaint no matter the challenges she faced, her strong sense of right and wrong, her generosity and devotion to the Catholic church, and her subtle but delightful sense of humor that always appeared at just the right moment.
Emily was an avid fan of her beloved County Kerry football club and always enjoyed watching them compete and win 26 championship matches in her lifetime. She also treasured every moment with her grandchildren and nothing brought her more joy than to spend time with them.
Emily is survived by those who loved her most—her children, Patrick, Eileen and Michael , son-in-law Kevin, daughters-in-law Karen and Scarlett, her grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsay, Kelsey, Jack, Annabelle, Laura, Madison, John, Hailey and Noah; her sisters Sheila, Joan, Eileen and brother, John Joe, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family members who will miss her dearly.
