Michael Lawrence Eller, of Williston Park, NY passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. He was born on September 26, 1944 in Flushing, New York. Affectionately known as “Mike” to most, “Doc” to his co-workers, and most notably, “PopPop”, as a grandfather. He grew up in Bayside, New York with his parents, Dorothy (Sullivan) and Lawrence, and his younger brother Peter.
Mike attended St. Robert Bellarmine School in Bayside and Holy Cross High School in Flushing. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1965. Called to active duty in response to Arab-Israeli tensions in 1967, Petty Officer Eller served as a Damage Controlman aboard the USS Massey with the US 6th Fleet during operations in the Mediterranean Sea. Upon his return from active duty, he married Mary Ellen Flanagan on February 22, 1969, his wife of fifty-six years. They began their married life together in Glen Oaks Village and eventually moved to Williston Park where they resided since 1972.
Mike worked primarily as an emergency electric lineman during a decades long career with Con Edison, KeySpan, Long Island Power Company and eventually retired from National Grid in 2004. He served as shop steward for his co-workers in his final years of employment.
Boating on the open water was his favorite way to enjoy time off from work. In his later years, he found joy cheering on his granddaughter, Marielle, at one of her softball or volleyball games. Mike’s sense of family and his steadfast work ethic leave lasting impressions that will endure for generations to follow.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Williston Park, son Kenneth Eller of Kings Park, daughter Kathleen Benedetti and granddaughter Marielle Benedetti of Albertson, as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
