MaryAnn Kelly Obituary

Mary Ann was born and raised in Queens, NY where she met her future husband, Jim Kelly. They fell in love, got married, and started a family in Richmond Hill, Queens. In 1971, they moved to the suburbs of Williston Park with Maura, Karen and Kevin where their youngest, Christopher was soon born. Their home on Canterbury Road was on a lively, close-knit block with many young families. MaryAnn was especially close with her neighbor Marie and her children all have lifelong friends from that block. She remained in their home on Canterbury Road for many years even after Jim passed in 2009.

She took great joy in pranking her children (especially her sons), loved going all out decorating and entertaining for any holiday on the calendar.  She attended all of her 11 grandchildren’s concerts, school functions, and sporting events. She could be found standing in the crowd cheering them on rain or shine. Saturdays in the fall were reserved for Notre Dame football, when she went radio silent, only to resurface when the game ended. She loved to travel with Jim and her grandchildren and especially enjoyed her annual trips with her sister Rose, sister-in-law Kathleen and friend Marie.

MaryAnn was a woman of great faith, she worked for St Aidan’s Parish Outreach for many years and was a CCD instructor when her children were younger. After retiring from St Aidan’s, she volunteered weekly at Winthrop Hospital.

Eventually, she moved to Sunrise Assisted Living, where she made a great many friends and enjoyed a myriad of social activities and was an annual winner of costume and decorating contests.

She will be deeply missed but always remembered. Rest in peace MaryAnn, you will always be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
