Charles Louis Dietz
9/8/1939 - 10/21/2025
Charles L. Dietz, son of Margaret (nee Picciano) and Charles Dietz, older brother of Richard Dietz, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of October 21st, 2025. He was 86 years old.
A lifelong resident of Williston Park, Charles graduated from Mineola High School before proudly serving his country in the Air Force beginning in 1957, after which he married the love of his life Sara Ann Wallace in 1960, and started a family with her on Long Island. As a faithful member of the parish of The Church of St. Aidan, and of Holy Redeemer Parish near his second home in Florida, his community involvement over the years extended beyond his roles as parishioner, usher, volunteer, and Eucharistic Minister in the Church. His interests led him to make amazing acquaintances and friends, especially in the areas of softball, golf, boating, fishing, gardening, and of course auto mechanics, for which he will be remembered as a key member of the Totally Useless Saturday Afternoon Garage Club. Devoted to the New York Mets and New York Jets, he would never miss an opportunity to catch a game with his family and friends.
Alumnus of Adelphi University, Charles enjoyed a long and fruitful career in aerospace engineering at Sperry and at (Northrup) Grumman, where he continued consulting work long after retirement. His antenna designs earned him great accolades over his decades-long tenure, including two patents with the U.S. government, and his consistent commitment to the work he loved so much put him in a unique position to educate and train the next generations in the industry.
He will be remembered pioneering the aerospace industry, in the pews of St. Aidan’s Church, traveling all around the world for work and leisure, out on the golf green, off in the waters of the Atlantic, in that old garage with his band of brothers, in his backyard tending to his garden or his pear tree, in his dining room or den doting on his adoring wife, but most importantly for being that anchor of security and love that so many of us called “home.”
The loved ones he is survived by are many, and include but are not limited to his wife Sara Dietz, his daughters Linda (Kevin) Flynn, Elaine (Dennis) Levy, Diane (Wayne) Clifford Norris, and Gloria (Kevin) Grimes, his grandchildren Teresa (Angelo) Cantatore, Lauren (Sean) Flynn, Ashley Levy Pereira, Andrew Levy, Alex Levy, Stephen Clifford, Sara Clifford, and his great grandchildren Adrian, Veronica, Madeline, and Emilio Pereira, as well as Salvatore and Liliana Cantatore. The loved ones he joins are his own son Charles Dietz, his parents Margaret and Charles Dietz, his brother Richard Dietz, his Aunt Marion Brauer, in-laws Evelyn and Harry Wallace, sister-in-law Joyce Dunnet, and his son-in-law Kevin Flynn.
Charles’ life will be celebrated Thursday afternoon and evening at Weigand’s Funeral Home and on Friday morning at St. Aidan’s with his final resting place at St. Charles Cemetery on Wellwood Avenue.
