Ercilia Cruz

February 10, 1930 – September 25, 2025

Ercilia Cruz, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 25, 2025. She was born on February 10, 1930, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico as the sixth child of eleven children born to Liboria Torres Rivera and Juan Ramon Rivera.  Ercilia lived a life filled with love, dedication, and care for her family. 

Ercilia was the devoted wife of Teodoro Cruz, with whom she shared forty-three wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised two children, Ted and Laurie, who later married Donna and Michael, respectively.  Her children were her pride and joy. She was also a beloved grandmother to Teddy Jr., Tyler, Daniel, and David, each of whom she cherished deeply. 

Throughout her life, Ercilia extended her nurturing spirit not only to her family but also to her beloved dogs. Over the years, she cared for several pets, including two named Happy, Blackie, Sammy, and Mindy. These were no ordinary dogs — Ercilia treated them like family, lovingly preparing home-cooked meals for them every day instead of relying on commercial dog food. 

Ercilia was a gifted seamstress, a talent she used to craft garments for her family and to provide for them as well.  She worked for several clothing manufacturers in New York City, a job that allowed her to work from home so that she could always care for her children.  She was also a fierce domino player who often obliterated her opponents with her sharp strategy and cunning skill.

In her later years, Ercilia developed a love for reading, particularly romance novels. She was an avid reader, finishing several books each month. Among her favorite authors were Danielle Steel and Nicolas Sparks who brought her stories of love, hope, and resilience. 

Ercilia's warmth, creativity, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of her family. 

A wake will be held in her honor on Saturday, October 3, 2025, followed by her burial alongside her beloved husband, Teodoro, at Roslyn Cemetery in Greenvale. 

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
