Richard Maurice Spadaford Obituary

Richard M. Spadaford, age 86 of Queens, New York, passed peacefully on June 24, 2025.

He was born on April 2, 1939 in Flushing, New York to Grace and Maurice Spadaford.

Richard was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School. He went on to pursue both his Bachelor and Master of Arts and Sciences degrees at Adelphi University. Richard was an avid sports fan, from basketball in high school to baseball as a catcher on the Adelphi University team, to golfing with his Dad and friends, and of course his favorite team: the New York Yankees. He never missed a game.

Richard's strong Catholic faith guided him throughout his life and helped him navigate through challenges with courage and acceptance.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures such as savoring a "good meal" as he so often said.

He made friends wherever he went over the years especially at his favorite diner and Stella’s! No matter where he was, he always savored a good cup of tea or coffee. He also loved dancing a good Lindy!

He was so thoughtful, never forgetting a birthday or special occasion in the lives of those close to him.  He enjoyed spending holidays and beautiful moments with family. He was a man of quiet strength, always putting others before himself. Richard showed incredible devotion and commitment to taking care of his aging parents. They meant the world to him.

Richard is survived by his younger sister Arlene Veltri (John), and their children Mela Case (Dan) and Christine Parker (Michael). He is also survived by his nephews: Ken, Tommy (Carolyn), Eddie, and Jimmy Kamermayer. He is predeceased by his parents Grace and Maurice Spadaford, and his older sister, Maureen, and her husband Bob Kamermayer. Many cousins and great nephews and nieces will also miss Richard.

Richard's family is forever grateful to his cousin, Ann Koshecka, for selflessly giving of her time, support and love throughout the years to Richard and the entire family.

The family also wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at the Grand Pavilion Rehabilitation and Nursing in Rockville Centre.

Richard has undoubtedly been welcomed into the loving embrace of our Savior and reunited with his family in heaven. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
