Obituary of Mary-Ellen Cocchi
Mary-Ellen, also known to her friends and coworkers as “ME”, was born on February 8, 1955 in Bayshore, NY, and passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2025. Her parents, Tom and Mary Germain, who both predeceased her, moved the family to Hicksville when she was very young. After marrying, she lived first in Mineola, then Albertson and finally in East Williston where she resided for nearly 37 years. Mary-Ellen is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roger Cocchi, her son Gregory and daughter-in-law Ashlee of Asheville, NC, her three brothers Jimmy, Johnny and Timmy, and many other beloved family members.
Mary-Ellen worked for 30 years as the marketing director for a local engineering firm where she also took on the unofficial role as the company’s morale coordinator. She loved using her creative skills at work to develop marketing proposals, and her interpersonal skills to develop positive connections with virtually everyone she met. After retiring, she undertook her newest passion, crafting, enabling her to create gifts and other decorative items as well as personalized holiday and other type greeting cards.
The Christmas holidays were especially important to her, and during this time she baked countless different types of cookies and cakes while also decorating nearly every inch of the inside of her home. Her love of gardening led to her serving as the chair of the Village’s beautification committee for several years, as well as the chair of the East Williston Community Church’s flower committee.
Mary-Ellen always enjoyed speaking with and getting together with her family and friends, and her caring way and very generous laughter usually resulted in to her becoming a part of nearly everyone’s lives.
Her friends and family will hopefully, always carry her memory in their hearts, and Mary-Ellen’s love and friendship will continue to be a part of their lives for years to come.
