Obituary of Helen Elizabeth Murphy

Murphy, Helen Elizabeth. formerly of Glendale, N.Y., returned to her Father at the age of 100, on April 6, 2025.  Beloved wife of Edward for 65 years.  Loving mother of Lawrence of New Rochelle, Kenneth (Geri) of Massapequa, Ellen Safarik (William) of East Williston, Edward (Angela) of East Williston, and Dennis (Debbie – Deceased) of Brooklyn.  Devoted grandmother of ten grandchildren, Traci Regis (Matthew), Karen Carbone (Michael), Brian Murphy (Sue), William Safarik, Gregory Murphy (Beth), Crista Regazzi (Thomas), Erin Early (Matthew), Jessica Keane (Matthew), Danielle Kennelly (Matthew), and Brendan Murphy (Molly).  Adoring great grandmother of James, Ryan, Sydney, Caleigh, Emily, Braden, Michael, Laura, Mikeala, Mallory, Thomas, Matthew, Michael, Blaise, Cameron, Kelsey, Emma, Amelia, William, Courtney, Jaime, Claire, and Olivia. 

 Helen was born in Queens, on June 19, 1924 the first daughter of John and Elizabeth Ginnell, nee Klement. Her younger sister was Rita Brueger (Fred,) who predeceased her.  She was Baptized in Sacred Heart Church in East Glendale attended P.S 119 and graduated from Richmond Hill High School in 1942.  She was the first person in her immediate family to graduate from high school.      

On July 1, 1945 she married Edward Joseph Murphy in Sacred Heart Church and they resided in Glendale until 1987 when they moved to Palm Harbor, Florida.  While living in Glendale she was very active in the community of Saint Pancras parish and served as a Den Mother to her son’s boy scout troop.  She was also involved at Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan, where she served as the President of the Mothers’ Club.  

Her pride and joy was her family and she loved seeing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  In her spare time, she enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards with her family, bingo, and dominos.
