Obituary of Margaret M. Sweeney

Margaret Mary Sweeney (née Coady) passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the age of 92. Margaret, affectionately called Marge, was born on February 3, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY. She is predeceased by her husband, John Sweeney, Sr., parents, Denis and Bridget Coady (née Brophy), and siblings: Mary Shiels (Charlie), Josephine Shiels (Dennis), Anne Williams (John), Francis Fasano, and Michael Coady (Mary). She is survived by her brother, Thomas Coady (Marilyn). Married for 69 years, Margaret and her beloved husband shared 8 wonderful children: Margaret Flanagan (Edward), Kathleen Broschart, John Jr. (Sheila), Maryellen Polizzi, Daniel (Bettina), Kevin, Maureen Bodo (Peter), and Edward (Elizabeth). Margaret adored her 17 grandchildren: Kenny, Tamara, Melissa, Kevin, Brian, Nicole, Annie, Courtney, Shannon, Anthony, Jack, Peter, Erin, Katie, Gabriella, Patrick, and Dylan. She was additionally blessed with 18 great-grandchildren: Hadley, Kase, Lyla, Jack, Sean, Nora, Henry, Luca, Castalia, Polly-Quinn, Riley, Hailey, Nash, Ezra, Zeke, Myles, Gavin, and Sloan.
Margaret loved her full-time job of raising a family in Williston Park. With each day, she instilled in her children the values of love, hard work, humility, and faith. Margaret will be dearly missed and tenderly held in the hearts of all who knew her.
Family will receive friends at Weigand Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2-5pm and 7-9pm, 49 Hillside Ave, Williston Park, NY 11596. Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Aidan, where Margaret was a devoted parishioner for 66 years, 9:45am on Saturday, April 5, 505 Willis Ave, Williston Park, NY 11596.
